Malignant Mesothelioma is a disease in which cancer (malignant) cells are found in
the sac lining the chest (the pleura) or abdomen (the peritoneum). Most people with
malignant mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they breathed asbestos.

could have built a change/shower room facility years ago that would have saved a lot
of lives of family members."

Selections from the book: "Breath Taken: The Landscape & Biography of Asbestos" by Bill Ravanesi
The author's father died of mesothelioma. He has come to some of the Alewife Study Group meetings and is a volunteer at the
Toxics Action Center,
which "trains and assists residents in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and
Maine to wage effective campaigns against stubborn polluters and red tape bureaucracies,
pressuring officials to act to protect our neighborhoods' health and safety".
"Breath Taken, through its inclusion of both contemporary and vintage images, narrative,
industry advertisements, objects, and voice will, I would hope, give the viewer a landscape
of awareness of this human tragedy."
