The following is from Oct. 6 comments by a member of the Alewife Study Group:
Haley & Aldrich's new policy, according to a phone call with Amy Church,
is to make only the number of copies needed
to meet the letter of the law and place only those copies in each of
the Public Information Repositories. This makes it much harder for
people to review the information on their own time.
By the way, the repositories are: DEP, Cambridge Libraries (Main Library and North Cambridge
Library), W. R. Grace, and Cambridge Community Development Department.
What is planned: a 550-foot long 5-ft by 5-ft utility trench down the
alley running behind the Whittemore buildings. Recall, the highest
asbestos contamination was in the area of the buildings.
They have come up with a plan, discussed it with the city, including
Sam Lipson, performed sampling for asbestos, determined that
there is none, and are now submitting a draft for the trench construction.
