Between 30 and 40 people from Arlington, Belmont and Cambridge
braved the elements to make a public statement about their concern for
Alewife and their opposition to the rental of 5 acres of the Alewife
Reservation to businesses. Lots of leaflets were handed out to cars sitting in
the daily traffic jam.
Signs included our own version of the Burma Shave ad campaign,
with two signs on route 2 saying
'State Park For Rent 1/2 Mile' and then 'State Park For Rent 1/4 Mile'.
TELL THE MDC TO STOP RENTING OUT PUBLIC PARK LANDS
Despite a massive show of public opposition, the MDC has granted the new owners of the Arthur D. Little site a permit to continue using 5 acres of Alewife Reservation Park Lands as a parking lot and perhaps even as a staging area for future construction on their site
TELL CAMBRIDGE TO STOP THE OVER-DEVELOPMENT OF ALEWIFE
Alewife contains vital natural resources for Cambridge, Belmont and Arlington including open spaces, a wildlife reservation and a flood plain. Over-development is now a very real threat to the vitality of the Alewife area.
HELP PRESERVE A VITAL & BEAUTIFUL NATURAL RESOURCE FOR CAMBRIDGE, ARLINGTON AND BELMONT
Call MDC Commissioner David Balfour directly at 727-5114 or Call Cambridge City Council at 349-4280 and tell them to pass the Alewife Downzoning petition
