TUFTS UNIVERSITY DEPT. OF CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING SEMINAR SERIES
A YEAR ("ALMOST") ON THE MYSTIC:
Tufts Water Quality Monitoring And Modeling on the
Aberjona/Mystic Watershed
by
Prof. Steve Chapra
Tufts Civil and Environmental Engineering
Background
The Aberjona/Mystic Watershed is about a mile from Tufts and was the
subject of heavy water pollution over the past 150 years. One famous
incident was documented in the book and movie "A Civil Action".
Since January 1999, I and a group of graduate and undergraduate students
have sampled the watershed on a daily basis. In this talk I report on
what we've learned over that period. I'll also talk about our future
plans and opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate research as well
as potential involvement with community efforts to restore the system
to a fishable, swimmable state.
